Elizabeth has been working with a mom and an infant for almost one year since the child’s birth. The mother expressed concerns to Elizabeth about her child’s language development. Mom says, “she will only say one sound “K”. Elizabeth asked mom if she had been talking to the baby and letting the baby see the mom’s lips moving as she was talking. Mom said “No, not really”. So, Elizabeth and mom sat the baby down in front of them and began to slowly say “ma-ma”. The baby watched intently as they were speaking. Very quickly the baby repeated “ma-ma”. She not only did it once but 3 times during the exercise. The mom was so excited, she began crying, as she could hear her baby say “momma” for the first time!
